Episode 6 – Jackson Riegler – Protecting The Great Lakes

Through Jackson Riegler’s teenage years, the threat of permanent damage to the Great Lakes ecosystem developed into a deeper issue than ever before. With risks of Asian Carp entering the Great Lakes, Line 5 Pipeline under the straits of Mackinac, and Trump’s proposed budget cuts towards Great Lakes funding, Jackson became more knowledgeable of these endangering factors and wanted to make a difference. In 2017, High School junior Jackson Riegler was inspired to raise awareness of the dangers to The Great Lakes and in response, he founded Oshki, a Michigan-based apparel company delivering local, long lasting comfortable clothing. 5% of the proceeds are then donated to local charities who share Oshki’s same mission.

The soon to be high school graduate joins Lynne on the Make Meaning podcast where he explains the definition of Oshki, how living on the Great Lakes factors into his daily life, and what’s next for him as he graduates high school and continues on to the University of Michigan. He dives into people he admires, and shares his advice on anyone can make a difference in their community.
