From a young age, John Hartig knew he wanted to work toward protecting the environment, especially waterways and the quality of water in the Great Lakes region.
Through Jackson Riegler’s teenage years, the threat of permanent damage to the Great Lakes ecosystem developed into a deeper issue than ever before. With risks of Asian Carp entering the Great Lakes, Line 5 Pipeline under the straits of Mackinac, and Trump’s proposed budget cuts towards Great Lakes funding, Jackson became more knowledgeable of these endangering factors and wanted to make a difference.
